Grass and Slash

Poorman Hill Neighborhood Grass and Slash-Denny and Jason

This summer has been especially green and lush, with a lot of happy plants and animals around our neighborhood.  The extra rain produced a super-abundance of field grasses, which, as we know, can result in wildfire fuel when grasses dry.  Big thanks and kudos to all who have cut their grasses, both around their own homes, and in our common areas!  This not only makes our neighborhood safer, but we’ve noticed that foraging birds seem to like the mowed areas as well.

Grass cutting started with our neighborhood Work Together Day, on June 3.  Also on that day, a stalwart crew of friendly neighbors got together for delicious pastries from Spruce Confections thanks to David Cohen, and then got to work cutting and piling slash in our Community Park.  We had a big turn-out, and it was satisfying and fun to work together!  A huge amount of dry material was gathered, and the Park was made much more pleasant for our 4th of July picnic and upcoming OktoberFest.  Huge thanks to all who helped!!

Thank you to Fourmile Fire for all the chipping work to finish out the project.
